Our Effect on the Desert
The desert is, for the most part, quite barren. It's small rain fall totals and scorching temperatures keep the desert from becoming largely inhabited. However, human actions do affect the desert in a negative way. Dirt-bikers in the desert disrupt the ecosystem, damage plants, and cause pollution. The mining of minerals also effects the desert and its ecosystem, as shown in the picture to the left. Any actions humans take the desert from remote to residential throws off the fragile balance the wildlife and plants rely on.
To help preserve the desert, humans can conserve water, especially if they live near a desert area. One of the most affective ways a to help the desert, though, is to raise awareness for the care of the desert and the animals and vegetation that live there.
